Smees is moving to Kietzke! Hands down the best fish and chips around! My BF is from the east coast and is SO critical of restaurants here, and HE loved Smees! They have their one fishing boat in Alaska and all fish is shipped fresh from there... and you can tell! Every piece is SO wonderfully fresh and cooked to perfection! (Delicate inside and crispy on the outside.) the batter is perfectly seasoned to not overpower the flavor of the fish. And if you don't have a huge appetite or are watching your calories, you can order one piece at a time! We love Smees and can't wait to visit their new location!

We ordered a few beers, clam chowder, fish and chips and tacos. This place has a great view. Food was great and the service was quick.

It was a beautiful day to have lunch alongside the Truckee river yesterday. I had two mahi-mahi tacos, and my husband had the tempura shrimp. The prices were high! However, they do sourced their own seafood. The food was delicious! The service was amazing! And the people watching was entertaining. It included dog watching! Before we went to lunch, I read a few of the current yelp posts. There was one that was a bit concerning because he said that they charged a 3% fee. What he didn't say was that that fee was only if you used a card. It did not apply if you used cash. that was very misleading. So for a heads up, take cash when you go.

Unfortunately sat us at the bar when many tables were available but bar was good too. We got to try 4 different oysters. Very good shucker because we didn't get any shells in our mouth. Love the atmosphere and the friendly service. I would update the menu to make it more visually appealing.

What does Smee's Alaskan Fish bar bring to Downtown Reno? The freshest and most flavorful seafood in town. Starting with the walk up to their restaurant, they have a wonderful view of the Truckee river from their patio. The inside of the restaurant is roomy and could hold large parties. We were quickly seated and our waiter, Riley, told us about the special of the day and then took our drink order. We started with a half dozen Tubby oysters that were shucked right at the bar in front of us. The oysters were flavorful and meaty. They were accompanied by some horseradish, cocktail sauce, vinegar and finely diced onions. Amazing! The entrees were the special of the day, Halibut cheeks, and seafood gumbo. The Halibut cheeks were lightly breaded and served over linguine with a zesty lemon garlic sauce. It was very tasty and light. The seafood gumbo was tasty, full of seafood and a nice had a nice spiciness to it. The owner, John, came out a spoke to us about the freshness and where the seafood comes from- Alaska. The Halibut cheeks were delivered fresh the morning we ate there. Smee's is a must try when in Downtown Reno.

Four of us came here for dinner on a Friday evening ahead of a magic show at the Pioneer Theatre. We walked up and were seated right away as the restaurant wasn't very busy. I was looking forward to eating here as I hadn't been before. There were many wonderful sounding things on the menu, but I was taken aback by some of the prices which narrowed down what I was willing to try down to only a couple of things. Two of us ended up ordering the cod fish and chips and two of us ordered the Asian style seared ahi salad. The meals came out pretty quickly and looked good on the plate. The one complaint about the fish and chips was that the serving size of the coleslaw was rather small. The seared ahi salad looked great as well. The ahi was tasty, but the salad didn't have any dressing on it. That was quickly remedied by the waitress bringing us some vinaigrette, but it would be an Asian style dressing for this dish would be a great addition. The restaurant itself was stylish and has a robot back-waiter. Everyone was friendly and overall the food was tasty. If we are looking to have an extravagant seafood meal in the future we will return.

We are transplants from the East Coast and so I had been looking forward to visiting Smee's for seafood. Husband and I had lunch on the patio on a Friday in perfect Reno August weather. The patio seating is extensive, well covered, and provides a wonderful view of the Truckee and the south side of the Riverwalk. Service was excellent. We enjoyed talking with Pamela and she was attentive and friendly throughout. Made a great recommendation for a dry Reisling. We also were lucky to meet Jon and converse about the restaurant; seems like a great guy who really cares about the customer experience. We started with a dozen oysters from the raw bar. We are always excited to try oysters from different regions and were able to enjoy two varieties from British Columbia and also Kumamoto oysters from Humbolt County, CA. West coast oysters are definitely smaller than east coast, but we loved all of them (my preference is for the Kumies - sweet and briny). The oysters were very smooth and fresh. Condiments come in individual little bowls, which I thought was a great touch. I love fish and chips and try them everywhere we go. The Smee's fish tasted very fresh and was definitely moist; the batter was light and very crispy. Really enjoyed it and will try the spicy version next visit. The fries are pedestrian but the cole slaw is very good. Husband enjoyed the lobster roll and the pricing was more favorable than we were used to in CT. The sandwich had a generous portion of lobster meat. Prices are a little high and the menu is fairly basic. But the food is really done well, the atmosphere is worth it, and the seafood is really fresh. We will definitely return to try other menu items. And we will be recommending Smee's to our out-of-town wedding guests in October!
